Last week, Joanna posted this darling photo of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, and it sent me searching for more pics of the famous Hollywood couple.

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward wed January 29, 1958 in Las Vegas, and there are so many delightful photos of them together that seem to explain how they stayed happily married for 50 years.

Joanne: Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that’s a real treat…

I imagine if you’re reading Snippet & Ink, you love flowers and invitations and all the lovely details that go into a wedding. But if you’re anything like me, you’re even more inspired by what could only be described as true love. Sweet, romantic, silly, mundane love. Eating popcorn together and snuggling up with a cup of tea…

I adore these two – look at the way he looks at her!

This? This is the reason there are weddings.

Ahh….I absolutely ADORED this post! What a true blessing to find a partner who will MAKE true love happen, with you and for you!
absolutely beautiful..
When asked about infidelity, Paul Newman said, “Why go out for a hamburger when you have steak at home?”
Love that quote! I hope someone says that about me someday!
What a beautiful post!
Amen, sistah. Love ‘em.
A truly beautiful post. Thank you!
Wow I love is the energy and the fact that they’re just having so much fun together. Thanks for posting these, so inspiring and makes me smile to think that my Hubby and I might look the same together too. 50 years of happiness await

oh my. these photos are amazing. they make me so excited to document the growth of my marriage. what a lovely couple.
thanks for the collection!
I have always respected Paul Newman because of his adoration of his wife. There’s no doubt in my mind that that couple embodies everything that true love is. But, it’s easy to say sexiness wears thin when you are married to a man who ages well and never loses his looks
This made me weep. It’s so, so cute but I don’t think I’ll ever have a relationship like that.
a great reminder….that love is the base of it all.
thanks for posting kathryn.
This was a perfect reminder of why it is worth waiting for your prince charming!
Love, love, love this!!
although marriage is hard for everyone, it is wonderful to see a couple who makes it last, work, and are truly in love. I’ve always loved these two & their love story. thanks for sharing!
Yep. Love weddings, but it is true love that makes me tear up at them. These two have long been models for me to aspire to in relationship…and I think I’ve got some of that now. Thanks for this wonderful set of photos and thoughts.
Thank you so much for this lovely and thoughtful post. Paul Newman is my absolute favorite actor. “Cat on a hot tin roof”is a must see. His beautiful and enduring love affair with his wife is something most of us dream about. Thank you again for posting this.
This is why I love you and your BLOG Kathryn!!! You are real! And this is totally what being a wedding photographer is all about. I love details and beautiful portraits but that is peripheral to what is central… The love share by two individuals that joins them together… That’s what a wedding is about! Individuality of personalities joined in unity of marriage! Thank you for reminding us all! And thanks God for couples like Joanne and Paul!!!
this is one of the sweetest posts, ever. thank you for this and all the darling shots <3
I love her quote about beauty fading and laughter being what’s important. But lord– his beauty hardly faded at all, if even!
Very sweet photos… especially the ones with the way he looks at her!
True love!
Paul was one of my favorite all-time actors. Nowadays I see him on the bottle of my salad dressing.
These photos are lovely. Love this couple. Paul was/is the best!
This is absolutely, positively one of the most terrific things I’ve ever seen. They are so cute together!

To thier own HAPPILY EVER AFTER
My husband and I used their vows for our wedding three years ago! He passed away a week after. We’re from CT and got married there, Newman and Woodward were longtime residents of the state. We were also inspired for the same reasons in this post.
marriage does not make this happen . . . these are 2 souls connected on a special level, and what a special level it is! beautiful . . .
This post made me so happy, thank you for the smiles!
Sigh. So lovely, so loving.
Although, I imagine being married to someone who looks like Paul Newman couldn’t be too hard
this is REMARKABLE. thank you for posting*
